Run the Changes

An interactive practice product for jazz education: students play guide tones against real engraved notation, teachers see it happen.

What the business needed

Jazz educators assign guide-tone practice and then hope. There was no way to see students actually doing the work, and the practice tools that exist ignore the thing that matters in a jazz classroom: real notation on real music paper.

What was built

  • A browser practice experience played on engraved music paper: be inside the 3rd or the 7th when each barline lands.
  • An assignment flow so a teacher can set the tune, the tempo, and the target, and students open a link and play.
  • Instant feedback for the student, so practice sessions correct themselves instead of rehearsing mistakes.
  • Zero installation. It runs where the student already is: the browser.

What changed

Practice went from assigned-and-hoped to assigned-and-played. Students get corrected in the moment, teachers get a product built by a working jazz musician who has taught this exact material. Every exercise is checked by the same theory engine that powers THIRI.
